Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. 2 Corinthians 21-22
Confirmation is one of the Sacraments of Initiation, along with Baptism and the Eucharist. It is conferred through the anointing with Chrism oil and the laying on of hands by the Bishop. In this sacrament, we receive the Gifts of the Holy Spirit, which strengthen us to live out our faith and participate in Christ’s mission.
At St. Luke’s Parish, students typically receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in the tenth grade. Those interested in receiving the sacrament should have participated in a religious education program—either through the parish or a Catholic school—during their freshman year, and ideally earlier.
Steps to Prepare for Confirmation:
Initial Interview: Students are asked to schedule an interview with Denise Pelkey during the spring or summer of freshman year to begin the preparation process.
Classes and Retreat: Confirmation preparation begins in January of sophomore year and includes Confirmation classes and a Confirmation Retreat. We partner with Red Barn Ministries to provide a meaningful and faith-filled retreat experience.
Faith in Action Program: Candidates will also complete this service-based component.
Mass Attendance: Regular Mass attendance is expected throughout the preparation period.
Commitment: Attendance at all classes, retreats, and events is essential for proper preparation.
We are blessed to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation in the spring at the Cathedral of St. Paul in Worcester, together with students from St. Anne’s and St. Matthew’s Parishes in Southborough.
