The focus for our first graders is to begin thinking about God, His love, prayer, virtues and how we become a community together. With the Be My Disciples student books as a guide, we use literature, videos, and class discussions to reinforce concepts and make connections to Jesus in our daily lives. We engage in a variety of activities and projects to bring meaning to the lessons so that each child can share with families what he/she learns in class. This is an exciting year when we want to welcome and invite those who have been part of our pre-K and Kindergarten classes in the past, as well as those students joining our St. Luke’s Faith Formation for the first time.
Using Be My Disciples as our primary text, students learn about who God is, what our Church believes, and how to be Christ-like to others. Children are also taken on a voyage through Scripture. Introduced to stories from the New Testament in third grade, students will then learn popular Bible stories from the Old Testament in grades four through six, all the while making connections to Jesus, the Savior. Various activities and videos are utilized to keep the lessons engaging and interactive. Each year builds upon the next as we journey to better know, love, and serve God.
